'Telugu should not be neglected in the name of globalisation'

Source: NewKerala
"Tirupati, July 21 : Andhra Pradesh Official Language Commission Chairman A B K Prasad today called on Telugu people to love their mother tongue. Inaugurating the training programme on 'Telugu as an official language' at the Sri Venkateswara Employees Training Academy (SVETA) here, Mr Prasad said it was necessary to find words equivalent to English for communication in the local language spoken by the majority.

He appreciated the neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala for using their respective local languages for all purposes. It was not good to neglect the mother tongue in the name of globalisation, he said. Necessary efforts should be made to impart education to children from first standard to tenth standard, from Primary to High school level in Telugu, he said.

Telugu should be used from the Secretariat level to the village level for official communication so that the language would remain in use with proper words coined for English words, he said. TTD Executive Officer A P V N Sarma in his address said that it would be difficult to implement Telugu as an official language for administrative purposes as people from various parts of the country and foreigners were involved in TTD's administration. TTD Joint Executive Officer N Mukteeswara Rao and Sveta Director Bhuman, who spoke on the occasion, stressed the need for using Telugu for all practical purposes. Mr Prasad also released a book on the occasion. Later, he held a review meeting with TTD officials on the use of Telugu."

It will soon be mandatory to use the Telugu language in all temple administration communications (including everyday transactions, reports and filings) in Andhra, according to N. Mukteshwar Rao, the joint executive officer of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
"Addressing the heads of various TTD departments, at a review meeting held here today, he said use of a language spoken by the masses will help create transparency in administration and will build confidence among the people about the functioning of the TTD. “Commitment is required to strictly implement Telugu usage, thereby help in promotion of the language,” he said. Notices and booklets will be distributed to all the TTD employees regarding the use of official words and technical terminology, Mukteshwara Rao said."
