"Belonging to the group of Southern Indic scripts, Telugu script is used in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh for writing the Telugu language, a member of the Dravidian group of languages. Because of their common ancestry in Old Kannada script, Telugu script resembles and is closely related to, Kannada script. By the 16th century AD, Old Kannada script had split into two branches, Kannada and Telugu. The arrival of the printing press in the 19th century further sealed the differences between the two. Telugu is spoken by more people than any of the other Dravidian languages."

Local Telugu Congregation Plans to Spread Gospel in the Bay Area

Source: Inside Bay Area: The Argus (Johnathan Jones)

Sam Babu Byrapogu, pastor of the new Christian Telugu Church in Fremont, plans to share the gospel with the local Telugu population living in California. Uli Chettipally, a member of the local Telugu community is hopeful that the new 50-member church will serve as a gathering place for Telugu Christians.
"I felt no one was catering to that segment of the population," Chettipally said. "There is a difference between an American church and a typical Indian church. People want to go to a church with a pastor that speaks their language." After working as a pastor of a 2,000-member church in the south-central Indian city of Hyderabad, Chettipally said he is confident that Byrapogu has the vision and experience to help the new church grow. "We wanted someone with experience and someone who could communicate clearly in the (Telugu) language," Chettipally said. "Of course, we also needed someone who was willing to come here."
The church hopes to be financially self-sufficient in three years. For more info, contact Pastor Sam Babu Byrapogu at (510) 894-4060 or visit TeluguChurch.org.

"Telugu Music, on the Move Thru WorldSpace"

Source: NonstopCinema.com

What is WorldSpace and what does it have to do with the Telugu language?

WorldSpace is a radio technology (that was launched in India a couple of years ago), through which music can be listened to with a satellite receiver. They are now re-launching the service, as the inital run was not as successful as planned. Accordingly, a "massive" campaign was held across Hyderabad promoting the service.

Now for the Telugu bit:
"WorldSpace has a dedicated telugu channel “Spandana” which plays telugu film music 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Though, the company claims the sound is near CD-quality, it just betters FM. The catch is the receiver is not mobile and has to be fixed in such a way, facing the skies so that it can receive the signal."
Further improvements to the system, have made it similar to Sirius and XM Radio in the U.S. The service will be launched in the beginning of 2006.
