Telugu Engineer Kidnapped in Afghanistan

Taliban militants have ordered Indians in Afghanistan to start leaving the country by 6:00 pm on Sunday, April 29th or they would kill their Indian hostage, a Telugu engineer from Hyderabad named Suryanarayana. Suryanarayana and his Afghan driver were seized at gunpoint on the Kandahar-Kabul highway. His wife and children have sought help from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajashekara Reddy and have threatened to commit suicide if Suryanarayana was not released. The Taliban reportedly accused the engineer of being an American spy. India is set to send a team of foreign ministers to Afghanistan to deal with the situation.

Bachchan's Ode to Telugu Cinema

Source: India Glitz

You can read comments made by many of India's film stars from last week's function celebrating Telugu film star Chiranjeevi over at India Glitz. Here's an excerpt from Amitabh Bachchan's unforgettable speech (a must read for Telugu fans):
"This is unheard off and unseen off that for one person the entire telugu film industry has come together to honor him, congratulate him at one place/stage. He has been a man of great humility. It is difficult to be successful all the times, but Chiranjeevi has proved again that humility and dedication make a person to remain on top forever. Here is a great myth in India that Hindi Cinema is the largest cinema. The largest cinema in this country is Telugu Cinema. The largest number of films which are made in this country are made in Telugu and I do not think I am wrong in saying that even commercially also Telugu Cinema is larger than any other cinema in this country. He is the "Megastar" of Telugu Cinema and ‘King of Cinema’ of this country. I wish him everlasting life and success and may he continue his dedication and humility for years to come".
